umor has it that in the mid 1990s, the Greenland Hills Neighborhood Association was one of the most powerful of neighborhood groups in Dallas. Unfortunately, events surrounding the building of the Central Expressway sound wall, coupled with the Traffic Study that changed traffic flow through our area, sounded the death knell for this energetic group; thus, the GHNA folded its tents and went “out of business” until the early spring of 2002. With the support and encouragement of the CrimeWatch Board, a group of daring souls volunteered to head up the resurgence of the GHNA. In May 2002, officers were elected; in September, with a total paid membership of 11 (Board members), we held our first general meeting. By January, 2003, membership hit 200 and increases almost daily.

General meetings of the GHNA are held quarterly at Unity Church (Greenville at McCommas), with extra meetings called when needed, such as when officers are nominated and elected in the spring. Meetings are usually followed by a “social” at one of the nearby establishments.

The Board, consisting of 5 officers and 6 Members-at-Large, meets on the first Thursday of each month. Officers and Members-at-Large are nominated in March, elected in April, and officially assume their duties with the May Board meeting.
